Making the most of technology workshop

Colin Harrison took delegates through a range of ways ICT can help rural communities.

After some basic introductions to what ICT is all about the workshop covered digital communications, mobile phones, blogging and remote working.

To tie some of this together the video clip below that was taken on a mobile phone shows Colin doing a live demonstration of a photo being uploaded and published into his blog!

Clever stuff !

But what’s blogging got to do with rural communities or market towns ?

Say you wanted to hold an event for your community. You could :

  • Keep a rolling blog website of events in the community
  • Publicise events
  • Ask for feedback on an idea or a proposal that the community can “own”

Afterwards we caught up with Helen Owers who shared her story of how social media (Facebook in this case) has been of huge benefit to the local young people in the community.

Here is her story.

Ann Harding, StART , Settle Town Team

Keith Brown, Highworth Community Partnership Group
