Rhona delivered the first day study tour ‘Snapshot of Yorkshire and Humber Market Town Renaissance’ and spoke at a second day plenary session which examined ‘Market Towns for the Future’.

This exciting and innovative first day main plenary session, hosted by Simon Berry, CEO ruralnet|uk created a bit of a stir. We weren’t expecting to be writing our thoughts and comments, yet some fantastic ideas and personal visions emerged from a huge number of people. Simon has written his own thoughts on this and other aspects of the convention here.

Something I think is vital for the functioning of rural communities is an effective rural public transport network. Buses feeding into railway hubs for example.
One of the ways this is happening in rural North Yorkshire is through the use of the community minibus. Today delegates at the conference are able to sample this method of transport as one of the vehicles from the Little Red Bus network is here to ferry people between Skipton Railway Station and the hotel.
Here it is waiting to leave the station..
